Parks & Gardens in Cologne
You want to take a break from all the hustle and bustle of the city? Then you can retreat to one of our beautiful parks and gardens! Here are a few tips where it is best.
Flora & Botanical Garden
Where are there more different plant species than in a botanical garden? To approx. 5.5 hectares of land, you will find more than 12,000 different plant species in the flora. The garden was opened in 1864, after it had been previously hosted by the famous architect Peter Josef Lenné. Next to the Flora is the English landscape garden and the water cascade in Renaissance style.
After the first 50 years of the Flora's existence, the Botanical Garden was finally opened. Here you will find exotic plants from all climate zones.

Subtropics house from October to March from 10.00 to 16.00 o'clock, April to September from 10.00 o'clock to 18.00 o'clock

The Rhinepark
Germany's most beautiful awarded park is located directly between Mühlheim and Cologne. Here you can click on approx. 40 hectares of land in the Rheinpark.
What else you can do in the park:

- Cooling down in the accessible wells
- Many playgrounds and the children's railway
- Miniature golf
The Cludius Therme is also located directly at the park.

Green Belts & City Wood
In order to make Cologne greener as a city, two green belts were laid out around Cologne in the 1920s.
The inner belt runs from the university through Ehrenfeld to the flora. The outer belt is crossed by the military ring and the city forest joins it. You can stroll through the city forest and the zoo in Lindenthal.

Melaten Cemetery
The Melaten cemetery is a special place of peace and quiet. Many of you will surely think:"A cemetery to relax in, isn't that a little morbid? No, not in our Melaten cemetery. It is designed like a big park and as soon as you enter it a little, the sounds of the city disappear completely and you can look at the beautiful and artistically designed tombs. There are also a few famous personalities here, to whom you might want to show your respect, such as Willy Millowitsch, Guido Westerwelle or Dirk Bach. A walk through the Melaten cemetery is always worthwhile.
